China and APEC

China actively participates in Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) in the principle of reserving differences while seeking common ground, and promoting cooperation.

At the APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting in Chile in November, President Hu Jintao elaborated on his proposal for strengthening macro and strategic cooperation, trade liberalization, investment, economic and technological cooperation in the APEC region. He also advocated strengthening anti-terrorist cooperation and creating a peaceful and stable regional environment. The President proposed cooperation in promoting energy security and announced that China would establish Asia-Pacific Finance and Development Center (AFDC) to provide a new platform for exchange, cooperation and capacity building among the APEC member states.
